My Private Cottage on a Hill

September 2nd, 2010

Several weeks ago my wife and I took a vacation down to the hill country of Texas. We split our time between two places and did a lot of fun things (some of which almost killed us). I STILL have photos I haven’t finished editing, but I am going to start posting those that I have made it through since its already been three weeks.

This is the first cabin we stayed in was just a few minutes outside of Wimberley, TX. There are actually three small cottages at Canyon Sunrise and you can’t see one from the other. Yep, total privacy. Each one has its own kitchen, living room, bedroom, and bathroom, just like an apartment. Each also has it’s own hot tub on the back porch and it’s own private swimming pool. Yep, private pool…in the woods…fun. That’s all I’ll say about that.

As you can see from the fridge space, there isn’t just a whole lot of room for storage, but mix in an ice chest fro drinks and you’re good. We went to the store in Wimberley and picked up some groceries to minimize our need to travel into town to eat/waste money on buying dinner out. It was fantastic. We used this cabin as a place to relax and do nothing part of the time, and as a base for our explorations into surrounding areas that you’ll see in future posts (so subscribe to my feed NOW!).

August 16th, 2010

I have a whole mess of posts that will be showing up over the next week or two. First, I have to get done editing pictures from my vacation, then I’ll get to writing the posts to go with them. Subscribe to my RSS feed to be automatically notified of new posts. We went to some cool places and saw some interesting things on our trip.

Here is a tease:

Cool Photography/Video Project

September 11th, 2009

If you are a photographer or photography buff, there is a coll project going on you should check out. A few weeks ago I started following Chase Jarvis (@chasejarvis) on Twitter. He is a Seattle based photographer and videographer with a great website and blog. Over the last few weeks of reading his website, I’ve found him to be progressive in his use of technology so if you want to see inside the mind of a professional Photog, he’s your guy.

Last week he announced that he is going to be on a two week on-location shoot in New Zealand. Okay, that’s cool. Even cooler is that he is giving us all the behind-the-scenes reports as they happen. This is not a post-production rehash of what went on, but a day-by-day update of how its all going down. I’m not sure this has ever been done, and certainly not in such a public forum.

If you’ve ever wonder just what goes into putting together a commercial shoot, you have never had a better chance to find out. Follow him on his blog and on Twitter for updates, blog posts, and videos of the action. Very cool project. (And it looks like a TON of work!)

How Not to Drive

November 25th, 2008

Edit:This is why I almost always have a camera with me. Pictures now also available on FrontBurner

On the way to Fort Worth today, I saw this wonderful driver stuck under the bridge on I635. Several hours later we passed back by and I got these photos.

Is My Wife Coming Home?

October 6th, 2008

The wife’s flight was supposed to land 30 minutes ago. Except it appears Dallas weather doesn’t want to cooperate. Check out the pictures. The first one was about 8:00pm, the second was about 9:10pm. This storm had better move on out now!

UPDATE:Just got a call. Plane is on the runway! But it was 60 seconds from turning to Oklahoma due to low fuel! I imagine the wife’s nerves are a wreck. She hates flying.

Tony Romo, Good Samaritan

September 11th, 2008

After nearly getting decapitated in Sunday’s game, getting 13 stitched in his chin, flying home late from Cleveland, and having to drive home, he pauses to help a stranded couple in an empty parking lot.

Great story. Glad Romo is going to get a ring this year. He deserves it.

“I don’t know, a hundred cars, probably more, had to go by. Nobody was stopping,” said Bill. “That’s just kind of the way it is in today’s world.”

And then …

“Bill was fooling with that tire, and I was standing beside the car watching him,” Sharon said. “The next thing I know, a nice-looking young man, very well-dressed, but with something strange on his chin, he walked up, smiled, and said, ‘Hey, you need some help?’ ”

Fire on Central Expressway

August 27th, 2008

This morning as I was driving up Central Expwy, I saw a large plume of smoke. Luckily it was just past my exit so I was already getting off the completely shut down highway. I pulled over into a parking lot and snapped a couple of pictures. From what I heard after sending my picture to the guys over at D Magazine, it was a UPS truck that went up in flames. Not good.

Now, I haven’t seen any reports on the MPG on these Smart Cars, but this can’t be much better than my V6 pickup.
